Why do oven mitts and pot holders all have the same smell? I don’t mean just the ones in my kitchen, I mean every one in existence. It’s not a “burned” smell or something obvious. It smells like something that spends a lot of time sitting in a drawer only to be released when needed to grab a pot or pan or cookie sheet or have one of those things placed upon it, which is a pretty odd coincidence when you think about it.
This is one of those mysteries that has been nagging at the back of my mind since I was little but finally formulated itself into the question posed above. And I fear that it is a mystery that will go forever unsolved…
